Read the Alumni Association Charter. The purpose of the association is to encourage the continuing involvement of alumni with St. Edward's University and to provide opportunities for alumni to promote and support the university. Learn about the Executive Committee, Nominating Committee, Admission/Current Student Committee, Alumni Programs Committee and Advancement Committee. Membership in the association shall be open to any graduate or former student of St. Edward's University, Maryhill College, or St. Edward's High School. Honorary degree recipients are considered to be alumni. Persons judged to have rendered distinguished service in the interest of St. Edward's University may be elected honorary members by the alumni board. There are no membership dues.
The Alumni Association Board of Directors consists of twenty-one alumni members. Ex-officio members are the faculty representative and university staff liaisons. The board meets twice a year (fall and spring), with committee conference calls taking place between meetings. A committee structure provides leadership and identifies special concerns that must be addressed.
The Executive Committee (composed of the officers of the board) will handle routine business between meetings of the full board. The Executive Committee will:
- Prepare and submit to the Board of Directors recommendations pertaining to matters upon which the board is required to take action, and when time constraints require, act as a policy board of the association between the regular board meetings.
- Assist in preparing the Alumni Association's calendar of events for the year and, in coordination with the Director of Alumni Relations, ensure that the association calendar is consistent with the university's calendar.
The Nominating Committee shall nominate alumni to fill open seats on the board and shall nominate alumni for special awards such as the Distinguished Alumni awards. All nominees shall be presented to the Alumni Association Board of Directors for approval.
The Admission/Current Student Committee will assist in identifying alumni in various regional areas who would be willing to assist in the St. Edward's student recruitment efforts. This committee will receive guidance from the Director of Admission or his/her designate. Also, the committee will assist in ongoing outreach to current students and new graduates.
The Alumni Programs Committee shall promote alumni activities (i.e.: career workshops, networking, service projects) through regional alumni clubs, recommend areas for future chapter development and help establish regional chapter guidelines. Committee members will also submit ideas and assist in planning and evaluating the Alumni Reunion, as well as events for special groups such as New College, MBA, MAHS, and St. Edward's High School.
The Advancement Committee will assist in the fundraising efforts of the university. Members of this committee will work closely with the director of The St. Edward's Fund.
