Seven Hilltoppers named to all-Heartland Conference Team

DALLAS, Texas - Seven players from the St. Edward's men's soccer team were named to the All-Heartland Conference Team Thursday morning. Senior Dustin Cherry, juniors John Calandro and Kevin Klaus, and sophomore Robert Georgiefski were all named to the first team, while senior Patrick Miller, junior Brandin Parras, and sophomore Jorge Vega were named to the second team.

Cherry, a Grapevine, Texas native, helped lead a Hilltopper defense that only allowed 0.71 goals per contest. They also had seven shutouts as a team. Cherry registered two goals and three assists for seven points from his defender position. He was named Heartland Conference Defensive Player of the Week twice during the season. Cherry was also named first-team all-region.

Calandro, a Dallas, Texas native, was second on the team with five goals to go along with his two assists and 12 points. He led the team with four game-winning goals. He was named Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week once this season. Calandro was also named first-team all-region.

Klaus, a native of Bastrop, Texas, led the Hilltoppers with six assists to go along with his three goals, totaling 12 points. He was tied for the team lead in shots with 41, and led the squad with 23 shots on goal.

Georgiefski, a native of Leander, Texas, had a solid season producing four goals and three assists for 11 points. He was also named Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week twice this season. Georgiefski was also named first-team all-region.

Miller, a Carrollton, Texas native, was second on the team with 13 points, resulting from four goals and five assists. Two of Miller's goals were game-winners. He was named Heartland Conference Offensive Player of the Week once this season.

Parras, helped lead a Hilltopper defense that only allowed 0.71 goals per contest. They also had seven shutouts as a team.

Vega, an Austin, Texas native, led the Hilltoppers with six goals this season. He also tallied two assists that resulted in a team-best 14 points from his midfield position. Vega was also named first-team all-region.

St. Edward's ended the season with a 13-4-2 overall record and a 7-1-1 conference record. They finished second in the Heartland Conference. The 13 victories for the Hilltoppers were the most since the 1999 season.
