God’s Kingdom Lies Ahead:
American Catholicism in Historical Perspective
David J. O’Brien will present his lecture, “God’s Kingdom Lies Ahead: American Catholicism in Historical Perspective” at 5 p.m. on Thursday, March 1, in Jones Auditorium,” as part of the Most Reverend Bishop John McCarthy Lecture Series on the Catholic Church in the 21st century. O’Brien is a Loyola professor of Catholic Studies, College of the Holy Cross. The event is free and open to the public.
In this lecture, O'Brien will discuss the history of recent controversies over Catholic identity and integrity, as well as propose a call for the renewal of Catholic Americanism.
St. Edward’s created the lecture series to honor Bishop McCarthy, who led the Diocese of Austin from 1985 to 2001, and to underscore the university’s commitment to its Catholic roots and Holy Cross Heritage.
