St. Edward’s professor receives Distinguished Alumni Award from Henderson State University

AUSTIN — Stanley Irvin, head of the art department and associate professor of art at
St. Edward’s University, was recently inducted into Henderson State University’s Academy of Scholars along with seven other distinguished Henderson alumni. Henderson State University is a public liberal arts university of more than 3,400 students located in Arkadelphia, Ark.

Son of the late Mr. and Mrs. W.H. Irvin of Camden, Ark., Irvin graduated from Camden High School in 1966. He received his bachelor’s degree in art from Henderson in 1970 and his master’s degree in art from the University of Texas at Austin in 1974.

Irvin started the first ceramics program at St. Edward’s University in 1976. He currently teaches beginning and advanced courses in ceramics and sculpture, as well as a senior level professional practices course.

Irvin has a strong following of students and collectors of his artwork in central Texas. He has received various awards for his ceramic work over the years and has conducted many classes and workshops in which he demonstrates his remarkable expertise and unique approach to hand- built and wheel-thrown pottery.

St. Edward’s University is a private, Catholic, liberal arts university of 4,250 students in Austin, Texas. It was founded by the Congregation of Holy Cross.
