Police Mission Statement
The mission of the St. Edward's University Police Department
is to provide a safe and secure campus for members of the
university community, emergency services, and needed community
services while maintaining a well trained and efficient
work force. To meet these goals the Department is organized
to achieve the following objectives:
1. The first objective is to minimize crime
by encouraging community involvement in crime prevention
efforts, providing proactive patrol coverage of the campus,
responding quickly to reported incidents and offenses, conducting
thorough investigations and maintaining a comprehensive
crime prevention program.
2. The second objective is to provide emergency
services and coordinate the development of safety programs
for the University. The emergency service area includes
timely response to medical problems, accidents and fire
safety problems. The coordination of safety matters includes
developing a safety training and inspection program.
3. The third objective is to provide building
security and access control for university facilities so
that a safe working and educational environment can be maintained
for the students, faculty, staff and visitors.
4. The fourth objective is to provide
an effective enforcement program that will insure compliance
with university rules and regulations as well as state and
federal laws.
5. The fifth objective is to provide needed
community services. These services include duties such as
assisting stranded motorists, providing jump starts, unlocking
vehicles, unlocking dormitory rooms and administrative offices,
and providing escorts for students during hours of darkness.
6. The final objective is to provide adequate
training to members of the department to insure they maintain
a high level of proficiency to better serve the university
community.
