Student Life
Special Events

Student Life is responsible for a wide variety of student oriented special events designed to facilitate growth of the mind, body and spirit. Student Life sponsors social, multicultural, intellectual and spiritual programs, as well as events such as service programs during Founder's Week in October, the Festival of Lights Celebration, Hispanic Heritage Month and Black Heritage Month.

  • Founder's Week
Founder's Week celebrates our Holy Cross heritage and honors all those, religious and lay, men and women, who have contributed to the development and enrichment of St. Edward's University.

  • Students gather on the front steps of Main Building for caroles during the Festival of Lights.Festival of Lights Celebration
The Festival of Lights Celebration welcomes the Christmas holidays with light, prayer, song and community. Originally a celebration of prayer and community on the front steps of Main Building, this long-standing tradition has expanded to include Las Posadas, a seasonal holiday show of song and dance and a community service project.

  • Hispanic Heritage Month
Hispanic heritage runs deep in Texas and also at St. Edward's University. The Student Life Office annually celebrates the culture by sponsoring or co-sponsoring historical and contemporary educational and entertaining events. Past celebrations have included performances by traditional Mariachis and Folklórico Dancers, lectures and panels by prominent Hispanic authors, and a performance by the “Latino Comedy Project." • Black Heritage Month
Student Life joins this annual celebration of African-American heritage by sponsoring or co-sponsoring educational and entertaining events during the month of February. Past celebrations have included a visit from renowned poet Lucille Clifton, a performance by comedian Happy Cole, a slide show presentation of "African Origins of World Civilizations" and a day of flavorful Soul Food prepared by the Students of African Heritage Association student organization. • International Education Week
International Education Week, initiated by the U.S. Department of State and the U.S. Department of Education, is an annual national celebration promoting intercultural exchange and understanding. St. Edward’s, like other colleges and universities, celebrates this week in mid-November to encourage students to take advantage of the international education opportunities.

  • Holiday Programs
We try to make holidays enjoyable and memorable. Watch for special holiday programs throughout the school year.

Be sure to check the university calendar often to see what’s coming up for you from Student Life.
